Set on a small island just 600 meters off the mainland and 10km south of Diani Beach, The Sands at Chale offers a romantic and secluded retreat for adults. The resort lies in 15 acres of indigenous forest boasting some of the tallest mangrove trees in East Africa, whilst the stunning private beach has powder-white coral sand protected by a vibrant coral reef. Due to the lack of seaweed piling up, turtles frequently lay eggs in the bay, whilst on the mainland is the Gazi Bay mangrove where motorboat or kayak trips can be arranged.

The Sands offers a charming Swahili style with coral stone buildings topped with ‘Makuti’ thatch. There are 60 rooms in total mostly situated in the main building or in charming ‘bandas’ style cottages. For something really special ask about the Penthouse Suites offering breathtaking views in their lofty position above the treetops, the Maldives style over-water villa or the wonderful and unique Rock Suite located on its own island.

Facilities include a choice of three swimming pools with the saltwater pool having steps that lead directly into the sea at high tide. For exploring the ocean, there is a PADI centre and snorkelling available.
