An exciting two night safari experience to the Taita Hills Sanctuary, travelling on the modern Madaraka Express train from Mombasa.

It’s an early start this morning as you transfer from your beach hotel to the train station. Board the modern Madaraka Express train for the 08:00 departure to Voi. Inaugurated in 2017, this modern rail service travels along the new Nairobi to Mombasa standard gauge rail line. You will travel in the comfort of First Class with recliner seats and plenty of leg room and there is an informal dining car where snacks and drinks can be purchased.
Sit back and relax, enjoying the scenery on the 1hr40 minute journey. At Voi you will be met and transferred to the Salt Lick Safari Lodge, one of East Africa’s most unique lodges with its rooms perched high on stilts. Enjoy lunch, followed by a visit to the Artefacts Museum where a brief talk will give you an insight into the regions World War 1 history. Later depart on an afternoon game drive in the sanctuary with the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 2 – Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Today’s morning and afternoon game drives will provide a great opportunity to view the diverse array of wildlife within the sanctuary which is home to more than 50 species of mammals and over 300 species of birds. Look out for elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, ostrich and much more. In between game drives, the lodge’s terraces offer excellent views over the waterhole below, whilst the hide provides a close vantage point of animals as they drink.

Day 3 – Mombasa
Following an early morning game drive and breakfast, transfer to Voi Station in time to catch the 12:30 train back to Mombasa, where you will be transferred by road to your beach hotel or the airport.
