This morning, transfer to Wilson Airport for the scheduled flight to Samburu National Reserve. The flight takes around an hour and may provide the opportunity to spot the mighty Mt Kenya en-route. Upon arrival at the airstrip, a guide will take you on a short game drive en route to your camp in time for lunch. This afternoon head out for an exciting game drive into the Samburu Reserve, returning back to camp as the sun sets.
The Samburu Reserve is located in the semi-arid north of Kenya and is part of a much larger ecosystem which includes the neighbouring Buffalo Springs and Shaba reserves. This beautiful and scenic park is characterised by rugged hills and the palm tree-lined Ewaso N’yiro River, whose life-giving waters attract a large variety of game to this parched region.

Today the thrill continues with more wildlife viewing opportunities on both early morning and afternoon game drives into Samburu. Four of the ‘Big 5’ can be spotted in the park, with only the rhino absent. This is one of the best places in Kenya to see leopard, as well as a sizable elephant population which often congregate along the river.
The region however, is particularly noted for the ‘Special 5’ which include; Grevy’s Zebra characterised by narrower stripes than their more common cousins, reticulated giraffe with their polygonal reddish-brown markings, the Somali ostrich with its distinctive blue tinged skin, Beisa Oryx which are more commonly associated with the deserts of Arabia, and the strange but fascinating Gerenuk with its long neck.
