Feel the excitement build as you touch down at Mombasa’s Moi International Airport, where you will be met in arrivals for your transfer to Sarova Whitesands, located by the city’s stunning north coast beaches.
Inspired by the architectural styles of Lamu, a UNESCO listed town further up the Kenyan coast, the accommodation at Sarova Whitesands is set amongst large tropical gardens with direct access to Bamburi Beach. There are five free-form swimming pools to choose from, one with a swim-up bar for afternoon cocktails. In the evening, you can enjoy sundowners at Cocos open-air beach bar, with live music several nights a week.
If you’re feeling energetic, you can join a game of beach or water volleyball, or borrow racquets to play tennis. Jet-ski, kayak, and paddleboat hire is also available.
Your stay at Sarova Whitesands includes breakfast and dinner, but just ask if you would like to upgrade to all-inclusive.

Day 4 to 5 – Salt Lick Safari Lodge
It’s an early start this morning as you’re collected from the hotel in time to catch the 08:00 Madaraka Express from Mombasa to Voi. Travelling in First Class, you’ll have plenty of leg room and can enjoy the changing scenery as the train leaves the city and heads into the Kenyan countryside.
On arrival in Voi, around 1 hour 40 minutes later, you’ll be met at the station for your 4×4 transfer to Salt Lick Safari Lodge, on which you might just catch your first sighting of elephant or other wildlife. Perched high on stilts, overlooking the plains of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Salt Lick Safari lodge is one of Kenya’s most iconic properties.
After lunch, there will be time to visit the World War 1 Artefacts Museum, before you head out on you first game drive. Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 50 species of large mammal, as well as more than 390 species of bird. Of the big cats, lion sightings are relatively common, but your ranger will also seek out leopard and cheetah. Out on the plains, and also back at the Salt Lick waterhole, there will be a great chance to see elephant, cape buffalo, eland, impala, zebra and kudu.
Your stay at Salt Lick includes four game drives in total, exploring different areas of the reserve. During your free time, do also take the chance to get up close and personal with visitors to the waterhole, via the lodge’s tunnel and sunken hide!
