Head south from Windhoek towards the vast plains of the Western Kalahari. Along the way pass by the settlement of Rehoboth and its Baster Community who are descendants of the first settlers to the area.

Day 2 to 3 – Fish River Canyon
Continue through the Karas Region via the small towns of Mariental and Keetmanshoop. This is one of the oldest towns in Namibia and capital of the south. Your journey takes you via isolated hills and endless rocky plains to the Quiver Tree Forest where you will find over 250 of these indigenous aloes in a single area. Travel on to Fish River Canyon with its impressive vistas and interesting flora for a two night stay.
The next day, tour the canyon which at 170km long and an average depth of 550m, is the second largest in the world. The impressive geological landscape dates back many millions of years and not to be missed.

Day 4 – Lüderitz
Travel past the Naute dam and the Naute Kristal Distillery which offers locally produced gin together with many other fine spirits. Continue towards the edge of the Namibian escarpment and via the Succulent Karoo to the coastal town of Lüderitz. En route, you may like to stop at Garub for the chance to spot the wild horses that survive in the desert.

Day 5 – Southern Namib
This morning visit Kolmanskop just outside of Lüderitz – a former diamond mining town which flourished between 1908-1950. Today it feels like stepping back in time with the desert sands having encroached inside the buildings. Travelling further east, your next stop is surrounded by the solitude of desert landscapes just outside the small town of Aus.

Day 6 to 7 – Sossusvlei
Today travel through the striking vistas of the Namib Desert, the oldest in the world. Your lodge for the next two nights is located in the Sesriem region, the gateway to the famous dunes of Sossusvlei. During this time you may like to visit Duwisib Castle, built in 1907 and reminiscent of German castles.
The next day, visit the famous dunes where you can walk up the ridge for wonderful views and photographs. The best time to visit them is at sunrise when the light paints the dunes shades of red, apricot and purple. Then head to Dead Vlei, a surreal white clay pan surrounded by the monumental dunes and studded with age old Camelthorn trees, before finishing at Sesriem Canyon.

Day 8 – Namib Desert
After enjoying a breakfast amidst the spectacular scenery of the Namib Desert, depart to your next lodge situated at the foot of petrified dunes. Here you have the opportunity to explore the Namib Desert on spectacular scenic nature and sundowner drives or relax by the side of the lodge pools.

Day 9 to 10 – Swakopmund
Today you travel via the Namib Naukluft Park to Swakopmund, a tranquil coastal town situated between the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. Visit the Welwitschia plains and the aptly named Moon landscape, two of the attractions during this scenic drive. In Swakopmund, you have the option of participating in some of the adventurous activities on offer. These could include scenic flights, dolphin cruises, quad biking, parasailing or dune boarding.

Day 11 – Windhoek
Head back to Windhoek today via the little town of Usakos, once an important supply station for the Windhoek to coast railway. Return your car to the airport or extend your stay in the capital city.
