The next day is free to explore the ‘playground of Nambia’ at your own pace. With palm-lined seaside promenades and a pleasant summer climate, Swakopmund is a popular holiday destination. Relax on the beach, in one of the cafes or beach bars, or explore the rugged desert on a day tour. For the more adventurous, this is Namibia’s adrenaline capital with activities such as skydiving, quad biking and sand boarding on the dunes.

This harsh, rocky environment is home to the rare desert elephant, the black rhino and free-roaming antelope species.

Visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO heritage site to view the 6,000 year-old Bushman paintings, before visiting the nearby Living Museum. You will also see the Petrified Forest with its geological formations and the Welwitschia mirabilis – the oldest living desert plant on Earth.

These attract a large variety of game including giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, hyena, lion, leopard, oryx, as well as endangered species such as Black rhino, cheetah and black-faced impala.
