Cape Town & Cricket at Newlands

All you need to know about visiting Cape Town for the 3rd Test Match between South Africa and England, January 2027.

When is the South Africa v England Test Match in Cape Town?

The third Test Match of the 2026/27 series between South Africa and England will take place from the 3rd – 7th January 2027.

What stadium is hosting the Cape Town Test Match?

The 3rd Test Match between England and South Africa will be hosted at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Backdropped by Table Mountain, it is one of the world’s most recognisable cricket venues.

Where is Newlands Cricket Ground?

Newlands Cricket Ground is located in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, approximately 4 miles from the city centre.

The full address is:
Newlands Cricket Ground, 146 Campground Road, Newlands, Cape Town, 7700

What is the best way to get to Newlands?

The most popular way to travel around Cape Town is in a private car or taxi, and we would recommend this for travelling to and from the Newlands Cricket Ground. As well as regular taxis, ride sharing apps including Uber and Bolt operate in the city.

It is possible to drive to Newlands Cricket Ground if you have a rental vehicle, however parking is limited at the stadium.

An alternative option is to use the train. The Southern Line connects downtown Cape Town directly with Newlands Station, which is adjacent to the stadium.

Do I need a visa to travel to South Africa?

If you are a UK citizen, you can visit South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days for holidays. However, we always recommend you check for up to date requirements from the UK Government Travel Advice website.

What is the weather like in Cape Town in January?

Early January is peak summer in Cape Town with warm, dry conditions. Expect daytime temperatures between 20 and 30°C with cooling sea breezes. The famous “Cape Doctor” south-easterly wind can blow strongly on some days. Rain is only occasional.

What other attractions should I visit whilst staying in Cape Town?

Even without the attraction of the cricket, Cape Town is one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations so there is a lot to see and do. Cape Town highlights include:

  • Table Mountain cable car and hiking trails
  • V&A Waterfront shopping and dining
  • Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned)
  • Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope
  • Stunning beaches including Camps Bay and Clifton
  • Cape Winelands wine tasting, in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek
  • Boulders Beach penguin colony
  • Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Can I do a safari after the Cape Town Test Match?

Yes! Just two hours’ drive from Cape Town, Aquila Game Reserve offers a one or two day ‘Big 5’ safari experience. Further afield in the Western Cape, Sanbona Wildlife Reserve and Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, offer longer and more luxurious stays.

Travelling along the Garden Route, or flying to the Eastern Cape, there are a number of excellent game reserves within a short drive of Port Elizabeth. Shamwari, Kariega, Amakhala and Pumba all offer traditional ‘Big 5’ safaris with luxury game lodges.

It is also possible to fly direct from Cape Town to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lesser-known, but wildlife rich Madikwe National Park.
