After an overnight flight to Cape Town, your cricket holiday begins in South Africa’s ‘Mother City’. You will be greeted and transferred to your chosen Cape Town hotel. Enjoy four days exploring the city, and spend five days at the South Africa v England Cape Town Test.

Spend the day exploring Cape Town’s eclectic neighbourhoods, or, further afield, you may like to take a tour out to the beautiful Winelands or discover the rugged scenery of the Cape of Good Hope, before getting ready for an evening of celebration.

Many bars, restaurants and hotels will host their own New Year’s Eve events, and you’ll likely find lively beach parties down at Camps Bay or Clifton Beach. At the V&A Waterfront there is a spectacular fireworks display.

On New Year’s Day, there are two main Cape Town traditions for you to get stuck into. Many like to climb Table Mountain, quite literally starting the year off on a high! This challenging hike takes around five hours, but you’ll be rewarded with incredible views from the top. If you don’t fancy the climb, however, the Table Mountain Cable Car typically runs on New Year’s Day (weather permitting).

For a more relaxed activity, join the locals heading to Camps Bay or Clifton Beach. These quickly become one big party, as people continue the New Year’s celebrations.

Cape Town is characterised by its diverse neighbourhoods, its beautiful beaches, and the stunning mountains that backdrop the city.

If you haven’t already, make sure to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, for panoramic views of the city. A number of day tours are also available to pre-break, including to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, and the Cape of Good Hope, returning via Boulders Beach, home to a colony of African penguins. Backdropped by the ever impressive Table Mountain, Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground is one of the world’s most iconic, and the perfect venue for the final South Africa v England Test Match.

The New Year Test at Newlands tends to be the most popular with visiting England fans. The ground holds 25,000 spectators and you’ll have a reserved seat in one of the stands, to see Root & Co. wrap up a series win (fingers crossed!).

Spend a relaxed morning in Cape Town, maybe enjoying a stroll on the beach or a leisurely breakfast on the waterfront. Then, fly to Johannesburg for a night in an airport hotel, before your morning flight to Mauritius the next day.

After the excitement of the South Africa v England cricket, head to the tropical island paradise of Mauritius. On arrival, you’ll be met with the warm hospitality that Mauritius is known for, and transferred to your resort.

With five nights to enjoy a blissful beach break, you’re free to do as much or as little as you’d like. Simply relax in the resort and enjoy its excellent facilities, including two swimming pools, a luxurious spa, activity workshops, watersports and an open-air cinema.

If you can tear yourself away from the resort, however, there is plenty to do around the island. Why not go to a rum tasting session, learning about its production with a tour of the sugarcane fields, then learning about the distillation process. A catamaran tour is another great way to explore, as you can hop lazily between secluded beaches. If you’re feeling adventurous, Black River Gorges National Park boasts over 50km of walking trails. The walk to Chamarel Waterfall is particularly scenic.
