This morning, we suggest making your way along the V&A Waterfront to the ferry port for Robben Island. Give yourself around 3 or 4 hours for the crossing and guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. Many of the tours are accompanied by former political prisoners who can share their personal stories of resilience.

After your ferry returns to Cape Town, you could spend the afternoon exploring Bo-Kaap, the historic and colourful Cape Malay Quarter, and the Castle of Good Hope, before returning to the V&A Waterfront.

If you would like to pre-book a tour of Robben Island before your travel, just ask.
