What is the best way to get to the Wanderers Stadium?
The most popular way to travel around Johannesburg is in a private car or taxi, and we would recommend this for travelling to and from the Wanderers Stadium. As well as regular taxis, ride sharing apps including Uber and Bolt operate in the city.
It is possible to drive to the Wanderers Stadium if you have a rental vehicle, however parking is limited and on a first come, first served bases.
We don’t recommend using public transport to access the Wanderers Stadium.
How far is the Wanderers Stadium from the airport?
The Wanderers Stadium is approximately 15 miles from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, with the journey typically taking 30 to 45 minutes by car.
Journey times from Sandton and Melrose hotels to the stadium are usually shorter than from the airport.
Do I need a visa to travel to South Africa?
If you are a UK citizen, you can visit South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days for holidays. However, we always recommend you check for up to date requirements from the UK Government Travel Advice website.
What is the weather like in Johannesburg in December?
Temperatures in Johannesburg throughout December and January are typically warm and pleasant, ranging from 15 to 30°C. Rainfall is minimal although there can be occasional afternoon thunderstorms.
What should I take to the 1st Test Match in Johannesburg?
Although there are some covered stands areas at the Wanderers Stadium, most seating is open air, so we would recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. A light jacket may be comfortable in the morning.
The stadium offers food and beverage outlets and merchandise stalls.
Can I do a safari with the Johannesburg Test Match?
Yes! You can easily combine the Johannesburg Test with a safari in Kruger National Park. South Africa’s world renowned reserve is around a 5 hour drive, or a 60 to 90 minute flight from OR Tambo Airport, to Skukuza (inside the park), Nelspruit or Hoedspruit.
