About your safari lodge

Shamwari Private Game Reserve is probably the best known and one of the largest game reserves in the Eastern Cape. About an hour from Port Elizabeth, Shamwari has been at the forefront of conservation in the region for many years and offers its guests a unique experience. The abundance and diversity of wildlife, including the Big 5, makes for some exciting game drives which are led by experienced guides. Shamwari is also known for its Born Free Foundation and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre which guests can visit in-between game drives, as well as walking safaris.

Bayethe translates as ‘I salute you’, a warm African welcome which guests are assured of at this characterful lodge. Surrounded by thick vegetation and overlooking a waterhole, Bayethe Tented Lodge offers the feeling of being immersed in the bush but in absolute comfort. The 12 tent-style rooms have canvas sides and pitched, thatched roofs as well as a  private plunge pool out on the deck. The communal areas are decorated in contemporary bush style with a cozy lounge area complete with fire place for those cooler evenings.
