Just one hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth, the malaria free Lalibela Game Reserve spans 10,500 hectares and offers a great diversity of wildlife including the Big 5 and other predators like cheetah, hyena and lynx. The large areas of savannah grassland sustain sizable herds of plains game including zebra, wildebeest, blesbuck and eland, which in turn support a healthy lion population.

Game drives are conducted in the early morning and again in the late afternoon to coincide with when wildlife is most active. In between safari outings, guests can enjoy their lodge’s facilities and the solitude of the bush.

Kichaka is Lalibela’s premium lodge and is located in a secluded part of the reserve accessed by a different road and gate. With its prime views overlooking a large water hole, it is common to witness sightings of hippo, giraffe, elephant and countless other game without leaving the lodge. Constructed of stone and thatch, the buildings blend into their surroundings, whilst the elegant yet relaxed decor make this feel like a luxury bush home. Above the lounge there is a library, providing a quiet place to curl up with a book or watch TV. The swimming pool is adjacent to the waterhole and provides unobstructed game viewing opportunities as well as a place to relax with a drink.
