What is the best time to visit Amakhala Game Reserve?

In winter months (May to September) vegetation thins out and animals gather around water sources, with mild daytime temperatures and cool evenings. In summer (October to April) landscapes are lush and green, newborn animals are prevalent and spectacular birdwatching, though afternoon thunderstorms can occur. Can you combine Amakhala with Cape Town and the Garden Route?

Absolutely. Amakhala is ideally positioned for a classic South African combination holiday. A popular itinerary includes 3-4 days in Cape Town, a scenic drive along the Garden Route through towns like Hermanus, Mossel Bay, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, followed by 2-3 nights on safari at Amakhala. This creates the perfect malaria-free safari and beach holiday, with the option to fly into Cape Town and out of Port Elizabeth for a seamless journey.

How does Amakhala compare to other Eastern Cape reserves?

Amakhala offers a more intimate, family-run safari experience compared to some of the larger commercial reserves.
