Your tour begins when you are met at your hotel by your tour representative, leaving for the Little Karoo. Your first stop is the picturesque spa town of Montagu, where you will enjoy tea and scones at the Art Deco Montagu Country Hotel. Next, visit a local farm school in the town of Barrydale, before you head to Calitzdorp, sampling their famous port-style wines.

Your will overnight today is Oudtshoorn, the ‘ostrich feather capital’ and centre of the world’s Ostrich farming industry. Enjoy dinner at an Ostrich Farm, dining on local specialities.

After breakfast, take a tour of the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. Return to Oudtshoorn for a tractor tour and light lunch at an Ostrich Farm, including local specialities such as Ostrich Steak.

Your journey continues over the scenic Outeniqua Pass to George, where we’ll visit the Outeniqua Transport Museum. This museum offers a unique experience of the Garden Route’s railway history, showcasing a vast collection of vintage vehicles, locomotives and other transport related artifacts. Afterwards, continue to the town of Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, situated on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. Along the way, visit the ‘Map of Africa’, an extraordinary viewpoint in Wilderness.

After a leisurely breakfast, drive through the lush Tsitsikamma Forests. This breathtaking stretch of the Garden Route encompasses mountains, indigenous forests, deep gorges, and thriving vegetation, all hugging the rugged coastline.

Then, visit the spectacular Tsitsikamma National Park and Storms River Mouth (weather permitting). In the afternoon you’ll return to Knysna, with a stop in Plettenberg Bay, originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers.

The next stop is Mungo, a family owned and managed textile mill in Plettenberg Bay, producing fine quality textiles, using antique looms alongside modern weaving technology.

There are also several optional activities this afternoon (at an additonal cost and subject to availability). You could visit Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, where you will be able to see a variety of primates, roaming free in the forest. There is also an option to visit the Birds of Eden Sanctuary, the biggest single free flight aviary in the world.

After breakfast, travel via George to Mossel Bay for a coastal walk and a visit to Cape St Blaize Cave, the site of one of South Africa’s oldest archaeological excavations, known as the Cradle of Human Culture. Afterwards the tour continues in the direction of Swellendam and the majestic Langeberg Mountain Range. En route, stop to sample roosterkoek, a traditional South African bread cooked over an open fire or grill. Your final stop today is the seaside resort of Hermanus, known as the heart of the whale route, offering the best land-based whale watching (August to November) in the world.

Enjoy a full day at leisure today. Perhaps you’d like to join a whale watching boat trip, during whale season (August -November). Alternatively join your guide on an adventure to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The area has largely been untouched and unexplored and there have been many shipwrecks off the rugged coast. The historic Cape Agulhas Lighthouse is considered the icon that signifies the tip of Africa.

After a leisurely final breakfast, depart Hermanus and travel to historic Stellenbosch. Situated in the renowned Cape Winelands, Stellenbosch features beautiful Cape Dutch architecture. Absorb the quaintness of this lovely university town before continuing to Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain where the tour ends on arrival.
