Today you can explore Cape Town with a local guide. You may start in the neighbouring V&A Waterfront with its shops, restaurants and harbour views, then venture into the city centre to discover the colourful Bo-Kaap neighbourhood with its brightly painted houses and rich Cape Malay heritage.

The Company’s Garden offers a peaceful green oasis in the heart of the city, whilst nearby you’ll find the impressive Parliament buildings and museums.

In the afternoon, take the rotating cable car up Table Mountain for breathtaking 360-degree views across the city, coastline and surrounding peaks, one of South Africa’s most iconic experiences. On clear days, the panorama is simply spectacular.

Return to your hotel to relax, before heading out for dinner at one of Cape Town’s excellent restaurants.

This morning, you can take the ferry from the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island, the UNESCO World Heritage Site where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

The moving guided tour, often led by former political prisoners, takes you through the maximum-security prison and Mandela’s tiny cell, offering profound insights into South Africa’s struggle against apartheid and journey to democracy.

After returning to the mainland around lunchtime, you have the rest of the afternoon free to explore more of Cape Town. Perhaps stroll along the Sea Point Promenade, browse the boutiques and galleries of trendy Kloof Street, or simply relax at your hotel.

This evening, consider dining at one of the Waterfront’s restaurants with views across the harbour as the sun sets over Table Mountain.

This morning you will be collected from your hotel and driven through the stunning Cape Winelands scenery to Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second-oldest town and the heart of the country’s wine industry. The scenic journey takes around an hour and winds through mountain passes and vineyard covered valleys before arriving at the historic Lanzerac Wine Estate, one of the Cape’s oldest and most distinguished wineries, dating back to 1692.

On arrival at Lanzerac, you can settle into your elegant accommodation, surrounded by manicured gardens, rolling vineyards and dramatic mountain backdrops. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure, so perhaps enjoy a gentle stroll around the estate, relax by the pool or unwind with a drink on the terrace.

This evening, you can dine at one of the estate’s acclaimed restaurants, pairing excellent cuisine with Lanzerac’s award-winning wines in a setting full of old-world charm.

After breakfast, enjoy a guided cellar tour and wine tasting on the Lanzerac Estate, sampling a selection of their signature wines while learning about the winemaking process from vine to bottle. Lanzerac is particularly well known for its Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon, both regarded among South Africa’s finest.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace. You may choose to indulge in a treatment at the Lanzerac Spa, explore the historic streets, boutiques and galleries of the town of Stellenbosch, or visit neighbouring wine estates in the surrounding valleys.

The evening is free to relax back on the estate and enjoy dinner at your leisure.

After breakfast this morning, there may still be time for a final wander through the estate’s beautifully manicured gardens or a coffee on the verandah, before your driver arrives to transfer you to Cape Town International Airport. On arrival at the airport you will be able to check-in prior to your domestic flight to the Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.

Shamwari Game Reserve is one of South Africa’s most prestigious private reserves renowned for exceptional ‘Big 5’ game viewing and strong conservation values. By flying directly into Shamwari’s private airstrip, you can enjoy a seamless arrival into this vast wilderness reserve.

You will be met at the Shamwari airstrip and transferred to your chosen lodge (please see options below).

The drive offers your first taste of the Eastern Cape wilderness, with the chance to spot wildlife en route.

After settling into your accommodation, there will be time to relax and enjoy the surroundings before heading out on your first game drive. As the light softens, your expert ranger will introduce you to Shamwari’s diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, including the ‘Big 5’.

Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner, followed by stargazing with one of the rangers, where the clear Eastern Cape skies offer a spectacular view of the southern constellations.

You can start today early with a morning game drive. One of the best times to see predators and other wildlife is as the sun rises. After breakfast back at the lodge, the morning continues with a guided bush walk, allowing you to experience the reserve on foot and learn about tracking, plant life and smaller species often missed on game drives.

Later in the day, enjoy a visit to Shamwari’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the inspiring Born Free Big Cats Sanctuary, offering valuable insight into the reserve’s long-standing commitment to conservation and animal welfare.

The afternoon is free to unwind, perhaps enjoy a treatment at the Shamwari Spa, or simply relax and take in the views. In the late afternoon, head out on another game drive, with opportunities for excellent birding, as the reserve is home to an impressive variety of bird species.

Dinner is served back at the lodge this evening.

After breakfast, enjoy a slower-paced morning with time to relax or join a guided birding experience, ideal for spotting some of the Eastern Cape’s endemic and migratory species.

Later, take part in a gentle boat safari, offering a different perspective of the reserve’s landscapes and wildlife along the water’s edge. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure, perfect for a spa visit or relaxing by the pool at the lodge.

In the late afternoon, enjoy your final safari game drive, making the most of your last opportunity to spot wildlife and enjoy sundowners in the bush.

Following breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, there may be enough time for one last morning game drive or bush walk, before you will be transported back to the Shamwari private airstrip.

This time, your domestic flight takes you onwards to Johannesburg. On your arrival at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport, you will have time to transfer to the international terminal in time to check-in for your return flight to the UK.
