Built into the rocky hillside above the mighty Rufiji River, Mivumo River Lodge offers dramatic and beautiful views down Stiegler’s Gorge. There are just twelve luxurious chalets, ensuring an intimate safari experience, each with their own deck positioned to enjoy the setting. To the side of the lodge, a riverside ‘beach’ offers a unique setting for sundowners or private lunches.

In the main building, there is an open-sided lounge and bar that leads out to an evening cocktail deck where a fire place creates the perfect after dinner ambience. Below this the infinity pool and sundeck provide the perfect place to relax and cool off in between game activities.

Game drives take place in open-sided vehicles seating just four passengers to ensure an intimate experience. With access to some of the finest wildlife viewing in Africa, look out for elephant, buffalo, hartebeest, lion and giraffe to name a few. You may also be lucky to spot the resident packs of endangered African hunting dog for which the Selous is renowned.

For a different perspective of the African bush, the lodge offers guided walking safaris to give an insight into the native flora as well as the smaller creatures such as insects, reptiles and birds. River safaris are also available in custom-built boats to explore the Rufiji River where there are often sightings of hippos, basking crocodiles and elephants.

The luxury thatched chalets are spaced along the river bank, each with its own private viewing deck featuring a plunge pool and rain shower. There is a ceiling fan, minibar and a lounge area with TV. The bathroom has a Victorian claw-foot bath and walk-in shower.
