Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Arusha to Gombe National Park

This morning transfer from your Arusha hotel to the airport for a light aircraft flight to Kigoma. Drive to the Hilltop Hotel and board your characterful dhow for a scenic 1.5 hour cruise on the lake, passing jungle clad mountains on the shore as you head to your lodge. After a warm welcome by the staff, lunch will be served before an afternoon chimpanzee trek or forest walk.

Gombe National Park encompasses a strip of ancient montane forest bordering Lake Tanganyika and was made world-famous by primatologist Jane Goodall for her pioneering studies into chimpanzee behaviour. Mbali Mbali Gombe is the only lodge in the park and has just seven tented suites ensuring an intimate experience.

Day 2 - Gombe National Park

This morning head into the forest for another chance to see chimpanzees. Free to roam wherever they please, these fascinating creatures are habituated to people, so it is possible to view them close up. Watch in amazement as they go about their daily lives of foraging, grooming and playing. Other primates found in the region include olive baboons and red-tail monkeys, whilst overhead keep an eye out for Fish Eagles and Palm-nut Vultures.

Return back to the lodge for lunch with the afternoon free to relax and enjoy this wonderful and serene environment. The sandy lakeside beach is the ideal place to relax or perhaps you would like to take a swim, snorkel or kayak in the crystal-clear waters of the lake. If you are still feeling active, Kakombe waterfall can be hiked to in around 30 minutes.

Hotel: Mbali Mbali Gombe
