Day 1 – Fly to the Selous

Board your light aircraft at Dar Es Salaam for the 45 minute to Kiba airstrip right…

Board your light aircraft at Dar Es Salaam for the 45 minute to Kiba airstrip right in the heart of The Selous. On arrival, you’ll meet up with your ranger and take a game drive transfer to your luxury camp. In the afternoon take your first game drive where you may be lucky enough to spot lion or elephant along with many other animals. In the evening, return to your camp for dinner and fall asleep to the sounds of the bush.

Mivumo River Lodge stands high on the banks of the Rufiji River with glorious views down to the plunging torrents of Stiegler’s Gorge. The 12 timber chalets have pitched ceilings and picture windows, whilst outside there is a private viewing deck with plunge pool and shower.

Day 2 – The Selous

Spend the day enjoying the vast, pristine wilderness with a choice of activity. Half or full day game…

Spend the day enjoying the vast, pristine wilderness with a choice of activity. Half or full day game drives are taken in open sided 4WD vehicles with a maximum of four people for a private experience, whilst river cruises allow you to explore the banks and sand bars for game.

At over twice the size of the Serengeti, The Selous or Nyerere as it is now called, is one of the largest national parks in Africa. The beautiful rugged landscape comprises of rolling savannah, lakes, rivers and deltas. It is also home to some of the largest concentration of elephants in the world, as well as numerous hippo, wild dog and all of the big cats.

After breakfast there may be time for one more game drive before your scenic flight to Dar Es Salaam. Alternatively, add an extra night or two to extend your safari, or speak to one of our consultants about adding a stay on one of Zanzibar’s beautiful beaches.
