Day 2 – Explore New York City

From Central Park you can head to Times Square to experience the vibrant energy of this bustling crossroads, with its bright billboards, theatres, and street performers.

Day 3 – The Hudson Valley
You can collect your car from downtown, or, if you prefer, catch the train to New York’s outer suburbs and pick-up your car from a local depot (speak to our travel consultants about the best option for you.)
As you leave New York City, take the Palisades Interstate Parkway for a scenic drive along the Hudson River. Enjoy views of the river, cliffs, and lush forests as you make your way north.
You may like to make a stop at Bear Mountain State Park, located along the west bank of the Hudson River.From here you can take in panoramic views of the river and the surrounding mountains from the Perkins Memorial Tower. Just north of Bear Mountain, you could also visit the Storm King Art Centre, a world-renowned outdoor sculpture park. Here you can wander through more than 500 acres of landscaped grounds dotted with large-scale sculptures by famous and local artists.
Before reaching Kingston, make a detour to Poughkeepsie to visit the “Walkway Over the Hudson”, the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. You can walk or cycle across the bridge for stunning views of the Hudson River and surrounding valley.

Day 4 – Kingston & The Catskill Mountains
You could begin your day by exploring Kingston’s historic waterfront district, Rondout. Visit the Hudson River Maritime Museum to learn more about the region’s maritime history and stroll along the Rondout Creek waterfront, lined with charming shops, galleries, and restaurants. A perfect spot for a lazy brunch.
Alternatively, you can embark on a scenic drive into the Catskill Mountains, following Route 28 west from Kingston. This picturesque road winds through the heart of the Catskills, offering breathtaking views of rolling hills, forests, and streams. Along the way, you can stop at various scenic overlooks, roadside markets, and quaint towns like Phoenicia and Woodstock.
We also recommend making a stop at the Ashokan Reservoir, one of the region’s scenic gems. Take in the panoramic views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains from the Ashokan Rail Trail, which runs along the reservoir’s northern shore.
Another highlight of the Catskills is Kaaterskill Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in New York State. You can follow the short trail to the viewing platform to admire the spectacular two-tiered waterfall cascading into a rocky gorge.

Day 5 – Lake Placid
Continue north through the beautiful landscapes of the Hudson Valley and on to the Adirondack Mountains.
If you haven’t already, then consider stopping at one of the wineries along the Hudson Valley, such as Millbrook Vineyards or Benmarl Winery. As well as a sample of the local products you will be rewarded with some picturesque views.
As you continue the drive to Lake Placid, you may like to take the short detour to visit Saranac Lake. This quaint Adirondack village is known for its hiking, paddling and fishing, but it is also home to the Scenic Railroad Depot offering a glimpse into the region’s railway history.
Finally make your way to Lake Placid, the host town of both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, but now a year-round visitor destination. You can still explore the Olympic sites including the Olympic Centre and Jumping Complex, as well as visit Main Street, home to shops, restaurants and galleries, many with an Olympic theme.

Day 6 – High Peaks & McKenzie Wilderness Areas
You can start your day with a scenic drive through the High Peaks WIlderness Area. Follow Route 73 through mountain passes and valleys, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Stop at trailheads and scenic overlooks along the way to stretch your legs and take in the scenery and fill your lungs with the fresh pine-scented air.
Alternatively, you could opt for a relaxing breakfast at one of the waterfront cafes overlooking Mirror Lake, before following the scenic Lakeshore Trail, or rent a kayak to explore the tranquil waters of the lake.

Day 7 – Auburn
The scenic drive from Lake Placid to Auburn offers more spectacular scenery and photographic opportunities. Begin with a drive through Adirondack Park, a vast wilderness area encompassing over 6 million acres of forests, mountains, and lakes. Take a scenic drive along Route 3 or Route 30 through the park, stopping at scenic overlooks and trailheads to admire the natural beauty in front of you.

The Finger Lakes region is known for its natural beauty and scenic roads, so from Auburn you can head to Skaneateles, a picturesque village nestled on the shores of Skaneateles Lake. Finger Lakes has its own wine region, so you may consider stopping along the Cayuga or Seneca Lake Wine Trails to sample the award winning wines. On the USA side, you can climb the Observation Tower for panoramic views of the falls and surrounding area. From here, you can capture stunning photos of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Niagara River.
Take the time to explore Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States and the primary viewing area for the falls. Walk along scenic trails, enjoy panoramic views of the falls from various overlooks, and marvel at the power and beauty of the cascading water.
For a closer view of the falls embark on the “Maid of the Mist” boat tour for a thrilling and up-close experience.
