Tabin is the largest wildlife reserve in the whole of Malaysia. Situated in eastern Sabah, on Malaysian Borneo, it is a pristine sanctuary that covers approximately 300,000 acres and is home to some of the most diverse wildlife in the world.

Day 1 – Welcome to Tabin Wildlife Reserve

On arrival into Lahad Datu regional airport you will be greeted by your guide who will…

On arrival into Lahad Datu regional airport you will be greeted by your guide who will then drive you into Tabin WIldlife Reserve and along a a scenic gravel road journey (lasting approximately one hour) through rural Bornean countryside and forest to the Tabin Wildlife Resort.

Upon arrival at the resort you will be greeted by the resort team who will make you a refreshing drink, and help you complete the registration formalities, before showing you to your accommodation. You will have some time to relax and take in your surroundings before lunch is served.

This afternoon, you can embark on an exciting trek to the renowned Lipad mud volcano, the closest volcanic site to the Tabin Wildlife Resort. After a 20-minute jungle walk through primary rainforest you will arrive at an elevated clearing surrounding this fascinating geological feature. This mineral-rich area attracts numerous wildlife species, including Bornean deer, wild boar, pygmy elephants, and various bird species. Your guide will help identify animal tracks and explain the ecological significance of this unique habitat. Adventurous visitors may wish to try the therapeutic properties of the volcanic mud. A mud mask is traditionally believed to benefit skin complexion.

Following dinner back at the resort, you may like to join a guided night walk to discover Tabin’s nocturnal inhabitants, including slow lorises, flying squirrels, and an array of night birds.

After breakfast you can start today’s adventure with an invigorating trek along one of the trails leading towards Tabin’s core conservation area. This scenic route offers excellent opportunities to observe Borneo’s diverse wildlife, including orangutans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and over 300 other bird species that call this reserve home.

The morning’s highlight includes a descent through dense jungle to discover the spectacular Lipad Waterfall. Here you may choose to explore the surrounding vegetation with your naturalist guide, learning about medicinal plants and the intricate rainforest ecosystem, or simply cool off in the plunge pool and relax whilst listening to the forest’s natural symphony.

You will return to the resort in the early afternoon for rest and refreshments, before as dusk approaches, you can participate in dedicated bird watching activities within the resort’s immediate vicinity, when many species become most active.

After dinner, you can embark on a different nocturnal wildlife route, increasing your chances of spotting various night creatures including civets, wild cats, and to enjoy the distinctive sounds of forest at night.

Day 3 – Farewell From Tabin Wildlife Resort

After a busy couple of days, you are entitled to a lie in this morning. After…

After a busy couple of days, you are entitled to a lie in this morning. After waking up naturally to the sounds of the jungle, you can enjoy breakfast before enjoying the views from around the resort’s grounds, or relax on the verandah identifying the birds and sounds of the forest.

After lunch you will say your farewells to the resort staff as your guide will transfer you back to the airport at Lahad Datu. Your guide will assist you in checking in for your flight before leaving you to continue the next journey on your holiday.
