Days 1 & 2 - Yangon
Explore the city with your guide including visits to the 2,000 year old Sule Pagoda, some splendid examples of colonial buildings and Kalaywa Monastery which is home to 1,000 monks. There will be time to explore Bogyoke Aung San Market (Scott Market) with its large selection of handicrafts, before lunch at a local restaurant.
Later visit the famous Shwedagon Pagoda which towers over 362 feet above the city and contains a stupa encrusted with thousands of diamonds. Enjoy a magnificent sunset at the pagoda, before dinner at the Le Planteur restaurant.
Days 3 & 4 - Mandalay
Fly to Mandalay, the former royal capital known for its monasteries and as a centre for traditional crafts. Sightseeing today will include Mahamuni Pagoda which houses one of the country’s most famous Buddha images, before visiting some of the workshops making goods out of materials such as marble and gold. Continue to Kuthodaw Pagoda which is said to house the world’s largest book on account of its 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist scriptures, before stopping at Shwenandaw Kyaung, a teak monastery with intricate carvings.
Visit the Sagaing Hills which are considered to be the living centre of Buddhism in Burma. Home to hundreds of temples and monasteries, echoes of cymbals, gongs and pagoda bells can be heard reverberating through the hills. Continue to the former capital of Ava where you will explore the picturesque ruins and countryside by horse and cart, before finishing the day at the iconic Ubein Bridge watching locals commute back and forth.
Day 5 & 6 - Bagan
Board your boat for a day cruise up to Bagan. Watch local life pass by on the river bank as you relax and enjoy a river scene little changed in centuries. There will be a stop at a local village and lunch served onboard. This evening arrive in Bagan and transfer to your hotel to freshen up, before dining with a local family who will show you their kitchen and how the food is prepared.
Explore one of Asia’s richest archaeological sites with over 2,000 ancient temples scattered across the landscape. Begin with a visit to Phwar Saw Village, followed by Nyaung Oo market where you will be able to witness local life. The rest of the day is dedicated to seeing some of the most important temples with your guide such as Gubyaukgyi with its excellent stucco carvings and the impressive Htilominlo and Ananda. Finish this evening at a view point watching the sun set across the temple scattered plain.
Day 7 to 9 - Inle Lake
Fly to Lake Inle and a change of scenery. The next two days are spent exploring some of the temples and monasteries as well as a cruise on the lake to visit the fascinating floating gardens. A highlight is the morning market, where you can meet local hill tribes who gather from the surrounding area.
After spending time in Inle lake, a short flight will bring you back to Yangon for a final night in the city.
Day 10 - Yangon & Langkawi
A day of leisure, before flying to the paradise island of Langkawi the next day. The Berjaya Resort has a beautiful palm fringed beach in a quiet part of the island. You are close to the Oriental Village shops and cable car to take you up to a spectacular viewpoint. Spend 5 night enjoying the facilities and beach.
Day 15 - Farewell
Today there is free time until your transfer to the airport for your flight home.
