Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Kampong Cham

Depart from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri via Kampong Cham stopping at Skuon Village. Skuon is sometimes known in the local language as “Spider Ville”, it is famous with international visitors for its fried spiders.

Continue on, stopping for a visit at Wat Nokor also called Nokor Bachey Pagoda (in Kampong cham province). It is an 11th century Mahayana Buddhist shrine made of sandstone and laterite with a large reclining Buddha and numerous alcoves containing Buddha images. An interesting feature of Wat Nokor is that the Angkorean structures has been incorporated amongst modern temple buildings, with colourful paintings lining the walls and ceiling.

Continue on the road to Mondulkiri. On the way, you can stop for photos at a rubber plantation farm.

Day 2 - Mondulkiri

Today you will head into the jungle and spend a day with rescued Elephants. The Elephant Valley Project is Cambodia’s first major rescue centre and is an industry leader in providing a safe haven for suffering elephants as well as the education and involvement of the local community. The locals are heavily involved in the project and together they have a build a sustainable project which helps the community and the elephants. At the moment the project has over 300,000 hectares of land and jungle for the elephants to roam. On today’s adventure you will follow elephant families as they go about their day, your expert local guide can educate you on the magnificent creatures as well as inform you about the culture and experiences of the local people.

Day 3 - Kratie

Today you will head north following the Mekong River to a small town called Kam’pi. This town is one of the best places along the Mekong River to see the rare and elusive Irrawaddy River Dolphin. Take a local ‘sampan’ boat on the Mekong River and try to get up close to these beautiful, rare creatures. The boat driver will skilfully navigate the boat as close as possible before stopping and drifting.

Tonight, you will stay in the most charming accommodation in Kratie, located on a small island of Koh Trong, in the Mekong River. You will board on local ferry to take you to the island.

Day 4 - Kratie to Phnom Penh

In the morning explore the island by bicycle or horse chart which will be available to you if you would like to experience the daily life of the people on this island, its fishing communities and the many beautiful vegetable gardens.

Head to back to the mainland for a visit of Wat Roka Kandal. It was constructed at the end of 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. It is the oldest preserved pagoda in Cambodia. The interior decorations reflect the style of pagodas found in Luang Prabang. It was been abandoned over many years ago and a new pagoda has since been constructed behind the old pagoda.

After visiting the temples, you’ll say goodbye to the region and head back to Phnom Penh
