If you have the energy, take a stroll to the Suria KLCC mall area to see the Petronas Towers fully illuminated at night and catch the Lake Symphony Water Fountain Show, which has daily evening shows. Watch jets of water synchronise to lights and music against the backdrop of the towering Petronas Towers.

Spend your morning on a half-day tour of the city’s highlights and most famous landmarks. See places like the King’s Palace, National Mosque, Independence Square (Merdeka Square) and the spectacular Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin skyscrapers in the world. Step back in time with a visit to the National Museum, a fascinating centre dedicated to Malaysian history and culture.

You will have time to explore and buy souvenirs at a local handicraft centre and make a stop at a favourite local chocolate boutique for an opportunity to learn, sample and buy some of its finest products.

In the afternoon, head out of Kuala Lumpur to visit the spiritual Batu Caves, a limestone hill housing a sacred cave temple. Climb the 272 steps to the shrine of Hindu Lord Murugan, visited by over a million pilgrims every year during the annual Thaipusam festival. These steps are a photographer’s delight, having been painted in bright, contrasting colours, giving rise to the name ‘Rainbow Steps’.

At the world-famous Royal Selangor pewter factory, learn about the production methods of pewter and enjoy a guided tour where you can watch a demonstration. The tour ends with a visit to a batik workshop, where you will learn how local artists create this colourful fabric.

In the evening, venture to the Jalan Alor Night Food Market and experience local dishes in the bustling open-air food market, where stalls offer authentic Malaysian dishes of grilled seafood, noodles and other local flavours for a reasonable price.

If you have time before you leave, spend your last few hours exploring some more of the city. Wander around Central Market (Pasar Seni), which has decent food stalls as well as walk-in arts, crafts and a chance to grab a souvenir before you leave. Alternatively, explore Petaling Street in Chinatown, which also has markets, temples and food, offering plenty to fill your last few hours in the city.

You’ll be met at your hotel for your transfer to the airport before your onward travel or flight home.
