Pick up your air-conditioned car this morning and head north from Kuala Lumpur. As you leave the city you may like to visit the famous Batu Caves, home to some magnificent Hindu temples.
The scenery becomes more mountainous as you drive towards the tranquil Cameron Highlands, a region famed for its lush green tea plantations. The cooler climate here makes it a perfect place for your first overnight stay.

Day 2 – Penang
Before you leave the Cameron Highlands, don’t miss a tour of one of the many tea plantations where you will learn about the production process behind your morning cuppa.
Afterwards head to Penang perhaps making a stop at Sam Poh Tong, a Chinese temple enclosed in a limestone cave. There are plenty of other places of interest along the way before you cross the famous Penang Bridge, gateway to the Island where you will stay for two nights.

Day 3 – Penang
Today, you may like to explore historic Georgetown with its well-preserved colonial buildings, or take the funicular up to Penang Hill for the magnificent views. Alternatively the north coast beaches offer a spot of relaxation.

Day 4 – Kota Bharu
Say farewell to Penang as you take the East-West highway to the coastal town of Kota Bharu. The scenery is varied and spectacular as you travel through some of the oldest rainforest in the world.
Take time to stop in some of the towns and villages to get a feel of the Malay way of life. In the afternoon arrive to your overnight stay in Kota Bahru on the East coast of the Malaysia Peninsula.

Day 5 – Kuala Terengganu
In the morning, take a stroll to Kota Bharu’s famous floating market, full of delicate and ornate handicrafts for which the region is renowned. Afterwards, continue your journey south towards the beautiful sandy beaches of Kuala Terengganu for a further overnight stay beside the Gulf of Thailand.

Day 6 – Kuantan
You may like to visit the town of Kuala Terengganu before you leave, or take a boat ride through mangrove forests with a visit to the turtle breeding station (in season).
Continue down the East coast to Kuantan, Malaysia’s third biggest city. You’ll find good shopping here, as well as great beaches and spectacular waterfalls nearby.

Day 7 – Kuala Lumpur
After breakfast head westwards on the final leg of the journey. On arrival in Kuala Lumpur you can return your car to the airport before catching your onward flight.
