Ethical Elephant Safaris
Elephant Hills Thailand place elephant welfare at the heart of everything they do. Elephant encounters are included in all stays at the Elephant Hills camps, but visitor interactions are limited to around two hours every morning, encouraging the gentle giants to roam freely for most of the day.
During your stay, you will prepare a meal and then hand-feed the elephants, making for an incredible interaction with these magnificent creatures. You will also get to see the elephants wash in their giant mud-pool, which is a brilliant spectacle. You are welcome to touch and have photos with the elephants too, however Elephant Hills Thailand do not allow elephant rides, as it is not what elephants do in the wild!
Many of the resident elephants were rescued by the sanctuary, following the outlawing of using elephants in the logging industry. Elephant Hills Thailand are focused on educating their visitors about the elephants, their care and the vital conservation work that is carried out. You will learn directly from the mahouts that look after the elephants, taking part in activities and workshops that give you an insight into their daily lives.
