Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Chiang Rai to Pakbeng

Transfer from your hotel to the Thai – Lao border and after formalities, you will be assisted to the boat at Houey Say (Huay Xai) pier. The characterful Luang Say boat has comfortable seating for up to 40 people on its open air deck from which to enjoy the passing scenery.

After a one hour journey along the river, the boat stops at a Kamu village. Home to around 85 families who live in stilted houses, this is an ideal introduction to the daily life of ethnic minorities. Enjoy a delicious Lao-style lunch back on board as the journey continues down river to Luang Say Lodge near Pakbeng. Arrive before sunset with plenty of time to refresh and enjoy the surroundings, before dinner is served on the terrace overlooking the Mekong River.

Luang Say Lodge enjoys a serene setting backed by mountainous jungle and offers traditional pavilion-style rooms with en suite facilities and beautiful river vistas.

A stop will be made to visit a hill tribe village of Baw, where you can watch the traditional process of making Lao whiskey. After lunch onboard, the cruise continues to the Tam Thing Cave near Pak Ou village, famous for housing over 2,500 Buddha statues of all sizes and for being a place of pilgrimage for locals.
