Australia’s third largest island, only 70 miles south west of Adelaide, combines dramatic coastal scenery, secluded pristine beaches and an abundance of native wildlife. Much of the island is made of up of National Parks teeming with wildlife.
Look out for kangaroos and wallabies, echidnas, goannas and koalas. In the waters surrounding the island are little penguins, sea-lions and fur seals. You may also see the shy platypus, one of nature’s more unusual mammals. This destination is a must for those wanting to see Australia’s unique fauna and birdlife.
Day 1 - Kangaroo Island
Your Explorer begins with an early morning pick up from your hotel and a scenic coach journey to Cape Jervis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. Following the 45 minute crossing to Penneshaw you will arrive onto beautiful Kangaroo Island.
Your tour starts with a stop at the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery to learn about the history of the oil distillery and take a guided tour before your traditional Aussie barbecue lunch.
After lunch visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and enjoy a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger amongst a breeding colony of wild and rare Australian Sea Lions. Your tour will then visit another amazing wildlife attraction, the In-flight Birds of Prey Display. Enjoy a delightful interactive experience and meet an array of birds and raptors. From here you will travel to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can get up close with Koalas, see Penguins swim and play, hand feed Kangaroos and Wallabies, learn about endangered species and interact with snakes, crocodiles and reptiles.
From here you will travel to Kingscote to watch the pelican feeding, before being transferred to the Aurora Ozone Hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2 - Adelaide
Your second day of touring begins with a visit to Clifford’s Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tastings and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products.
Next, travel to Emu Bay Lavender Farm for a freshly prepared lunch. After lunch you have the chance to visit the beautiful long sandy beach of Emu Bay, popular with swimmers and fisherman alike.
The tour continues with a visit to the KI Brewery which makes a range of craft beer which you can sample or purchase to take home with you. There is the chance to explore Reeves Point, South Australia’s first official European settlement and Kingscote before travelling to Pennington Bay to enjoy the panoramic views overlooking this popular surfing beach.
Before concluding your tour at Penneshaw, indulge in the wide range of wine available for tastings at Dudley’s Clifftop Cellar Door. Taste handcrafted wines on the deck, perched atop Kangaroo Island’s stunning north coast, with magnificent views back to the mainland.
Your tour concludes as you board the Sealink ferry to Cape Jervis before connecting with the coach to Adelaide. Tour concludes at approximately 22:40, at which time hotel drop offs will commence.
