A memorable experience on the beautiful and historic Murray River aboard a traditional paddlewheeler. Admire the diverse fauna and flora, indigenous history and culture and sample some of the food and wine from this famous region.
With less than 120 guests, the Murray Princess provides a personal and intimate style of small ship cruising, exploring the ecosystem of Australia’s longest river by day and dining on delicious fresh produce by night. There is a choice of well appointed cabins ranging from the outside facing Stateroom, Outside Cabin and Inside Cabin. All have private en suite bathrooms, electric blankets and daily servicing.
Day 1 - Caurnamont
(Monday) Depart Adelaide on the complimentary coach transfer and travel to historic Mannum where you 4 night cruise will depart at 16:30. Learn about the significance of this quaint township as the birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication as you head downriver whilst enjoying pre-dinner drinks and a Welcome Dinner.
As you cruise under floodlight to the overnight mooring at Caurnamont you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species.
Enjoy the evening entertainment and dance the night away before settling down in your private cabin.
Day 2 - Blanchetown
Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific bird life includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water.
This afternoon moor opposite to the township of Blanchetown for your overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, join a guided tour of Burk Salter Winery and surrounding vineyard and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door which is fitted out with beautiful red gum bars.
There is more entertainment to enjoy after another delicious on board dinner.
Day 3 - Sunnydale
After breakfast cruise downriver to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s and was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers.
The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where you can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray River (additional cost). Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (Gold coin donation at entry).
Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by or enjoy a lifestyle and info-cruising presentation.
Arrive at Sunnydale where it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show and learn about typical Australian woolshed history. Later visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour by a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner (additional cost).
Day 4 - Mannum & Adelaide
Your cruise meanders its way back to Mannum and after breakfast, it is time to say a reluctant farewell as you arrive at the Mannum Wharf.
Complimentary coach transfers will then take you back to Adelaide city centre (11:30) or airport (12:00)
