Brisbane & The Gabba Stadium
All you need to know about visiting Brisbane and attending the 2029/30 Ashes Test Match.
What stadium is hosting the 2029/30 Ashes Test Match in Brisbane?
The Gabba is a multi-sport venue and is due to host the Olympic Games in 2032. Although the current capacity has risen to 42,000 there are plans to build a new purpose built stadium, either on or away from the current site. This could mean that the Brisbane test match in 2029/30 will be the last Ashes test to be hosted at this historic cricket ground.
Where is the Gabba?
The Gabba Stadium is located in Woolloongabba, a suburb just southeast of Brisbane’s city centre. Its official address is 411, Vulture Street, Woolloongabba, Queensland 4102.
What is the best way to get to the Gabba Stadium?
The Gabba is located south of the Brisbane River, around 2 kilometres from the commercial centre of Brisbane, making it relatively easy to access, particularly if you are using public transport.
- By Bus – The Woolloongabba Bus Station is adjacent to the Gabba, making travelling to and from the stadium by bus the most convenient option. A frequent bus service operates from King George Square and Elizabeth Street Bus Station in the centre of Brisbane, as well as the Cultural Centre Bus Station on the South Bank. There are also usually additional event bus services in operation during the peak Test Match times. It is a quick 10-15 minute journey to the stadium by bus.
- By Train – The Gabba doesn’t have a dedicated train station, however the closest train stations are Park Road and Buranda Station. It is about a 10 minute walk from either station to the Gabba.
- By Ferry – The CityCat ferry operates up and down the Brisbane River. Disembarking at the South Bank or Dockside ferry terminals leaves a short hop by bus (see above) to the Gabba.
- By Taxi – Traditional taxis as well as Uber and other rideshare services operate throughout Brisbane. The journey from downtown Brisbane to the Gabba should take between 10 and fifteen minutes.
- By Car – The Woolloongabba area is an historic suburb, and doesn’t offer large amounts of parking. Paid parking at Kangaroo Point and Coorparoo fill up quickly, so driving to the Gabba isn’t recommended.
- On Foot – With the stadium being around 2km from downtown Brisbane it can be quite a pleasant walk to the Gabba. It is possible to cross the Brisbane River by the Goodwill Bridge or Victoria Bridge and be at the Gabba in around 30 to 40 minutes minutes. If you are staying on the South Bank then the walk would be even quicker.
