Melbourne & The MCG

All you need to know about visiting Melbourne and attending the 2029/30 Ashes Test Match.

What stadium is hosting the 2029/30 Ashes Test in Melbourne?

The Boxing Day Test Match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground must be on every sports fan’s bucket list.

The first delivery of the Melbourne Ashes Test with a stadium packed full of more than 100,000 cricket fans is an experience not easily forgotten. Quite often this can be the decisive Test Match in the Ashes Series, which just adds to its importance.

Where is the MCG?

The MCG is surrounded by Melbourne’s Sports Precinct, which includes the Rod Laver Tennis Arena and the AAMI Park. It is located within Yarra Park, about two kilometres from the Melbourne’s city centre. The official address of the MCG is Brunton Avenue, Richmond, Victoria 3002.

What is the best way to get to the MCG?

A capacity crowd of 1000,000 is expected for the 4th NRMA Insurance Ashes Melbourne Test at the MCG. Whilst Melbourne has a good public transport network, we recommend giving yourself plenty of time to reach the stadium.

  • On Foot – The MCG is around a 20 to 40 minute walk from most major hotels in Melbourne city centre. You can walk along Flinders Street or through the picturesque Yarra Park.
  • By Train – The MCG is easily accessible from Richmond Station and Jolimont Station, both of which are just a few minutes’ walk from the stadium. Trains depart regularly from Flinders Street Station.
  • By Tram – Several trams run to the MCG along Flinders Street. Tram routes 48 and 75 stop near the stadium, dropping you off on Wellington Parade within a short walking distance.
  • By Taxi – Traditional taxis as well as Uber and other rideshare services operate throughout Melbourne. There is a designated taxi drop-off point in Brunton Avenue or Wellington Parade.
  • By Car – Driving to the MCG is not recommended due to the lack of parking close to the venue.

What dates is the 2029/30 Ashes Test in Melbourne?

Although traditionally starting on the 26th December, Cricket Australia will confirm the schedule and dates for all the 2029/30 Ashes Tour in 2028. By registering above you can be the first to learn confirmed dates, packages and prices.
