Your wilderness experience begins with a scenic drive from Darwin into the Top End outback. After crossing the Adelaide and Mary Rivers, you will turn off the main Arnhem Highway and make your way towards the entrance to Bamurru Plains. At the gate to the property you will be welcomed by your guide, who will arrange your secure parking for your car, before whisking you away in a 4WD vehicle to your safari lodge, the perfect transition from road trip to wilderness experience.

If you arrive before 2pm, you’ll have the opportunity to embark on your first afternoon game drive. This magical introduction to the property offers chances to encounter wallabies, saltwater crocodiles, wild buffalo, and a spectacular array of birdlife in their natural habitat.

As the day draws to a close, you’ll settle into your luxury safari-style tent before joining fellow guests at the main lodge for a specially prepared welcome dinner, the perfect end to your first day in this remarkable wilderness sanctuary.

After a good night’s sleep you will wake up to the beautiful sounds of the outback. Your luxury safari tent has mesh walls, so you can stay in bed and soak up the views, or if you prefer you can sip your morning coffee from your private deck whilst watching the wildlife wake up around you.

There are multiple activities that you can enjoy at Bamurru Plains, and you can choose your own programme with one of the staff. Activities will vary depend on the time of year and the current weather and water levels.

After breakfast, a morning game drive in an open top 4WD vehicle is a great way to begin the day. Your knowledgeable guide will be able to take you to all the best wildlife viewing spots and give you a unique insight into this unique and fragile Top End environment. The raised seating provides the best possible views and the canopy can be raised to shield you from the sun.

After lunch we suggest trying one of Bamurru Plains signature experiences, and airboat safari. This exhilarating experience is the only way to reach some of the remote floodplains that are home to thousands of egrets, ibis, plumed whistling duck and magpie geese, amongst other birds. Your field guide will provide a unique insight into this amazing habitat whilst you are floating amongst a forest of Melaleuca trees, or searching for crocodiles amongst the grasses.

Another sumptuous dinner, featuring locally sourced ingredients is provided in the main lodge in the evening.

By now you will be more used to waking up surrounded by nature, but it is still a privilege to be able to relax and take in the sights and sounds of the outback.

After another outback breakfast you may like to take a relaxing river cruise on the Samoan Creek, part of the Mary River system. As you cruise along the calm waters of the river you will be able to spot crocodiles basking in the sun on the riverbank. As you sit under the shade of the boat’s canopy you will be able to spot some of the many bird species that call the mangroves home, whilst nibbling on canapes, snacks and other refreshments onboard.

After lunch you may wish to relax at the lodge and rest in your tent, or take a swim in the infinity pool as you watch the buffalo roam past, or spot the agile wallabies hopping by. Alternatively you may like to take a late afternoon game drive that stops at one of the best viewpoints to enjoy a drink and a pre-dinner appetizer as the sun sets on another beautiful Top End day. Another delicious dinner will be waiting for you back at the lodge.

After another relaxing morning waking up in this wonderful wildlife experience, you will be treated to one last breakfast at the lodge before one of the guides will collect you to return you to your car.

On your journey back to civilisation, you may like to stop alongside the Adelaide River or join a ‘Jumping Crocs’ Nature Cruise to see more of these amazing animals up close.

If you didn’t stop at Fogg Dam on the way down, you can incorporate this in your tour or visit independently as you make your way back to Darwin to continue your Northern Territory holiday.
