Just 45 minutes by ferry from Cairns, Fitzroy Island is ideal for couples or families looking for a relaxed Barrier Reef Island stay. The calm waters are perfect for snorkelling, kayaking or, for the more adventurous, the island has its own Dive Centre. There are some great forest walks too, with plenty of birdlife to spot and some breathtaking views over the Coral Sea. The island is also home to a unique turtle rehabilitation centre where you can learn about the efforts made to ensure the health of these beautiful sea creatures and see those currently receiving treatment.
