And don’t leave Perth without visiting Kings Park, which is home to a wonderful botanic garden with over 3,000 species of flora found in Western Australia.

You have time for a leisurely brunch before making your way to East Perth Terminal to board the mighty Indian Pacific – one of the world’s great rail journeys.

After settling into your cabin, head to the lounge to meet your fellow travellers, then enjoy your first dinner on board. The menu is inspired by seasonal and regional flavours.

Your journey on the Indian Pacific is all-inclusive, with a carefully selected choice of premium wines, beers and spirits available.

Awake to see the sunrise across the vast Nullarbor before arriving in Kalgoorlie, Australia’s largest outback town. Here, you’ll have a choice of three off-train excursions:

• The Super Pit – a close-up guided tour of one of Australia’s largest working gold mines
• Golden Treasures – a step back in time at the fascinating Hannans North Tourist Mine
• Curious Kalgoorlie – a city tour told through the stories of its quirkiest characters

Reboarding mid-morning for brunch, spend the afternoon at leisure as the endless sweep of the Nullarbor passes by. Crossing borders and time zones, you’ll arrive late evening into the near-ghost town of Cook, South Australia, where you can disembark for a guided stargazing experience to spot the Southern Cross and other constellations. Return to the train for a regionally inspired dinner as you continue eastward.

Enjoy breakfast and lunch on board as you watch the changing scenery pass by. You will journey through South Australia’s rolling pastoral lands, the Flinders Ranges, Spencer Gulf and the Adelaide Plains.

In the afternoon, disembark at Long Plains and transfer by coach to the world-renowned Barossa Valley. Here, at the historic Seppeltsfield Estate, an evening of fine wine and dining awaits. Enjoy a signature culinary experience in the vintage cellar, created exclusively for Indian Pacific guests, complete with a ‘Firing of the Barrel’ and a food and wine pairing designed by Executive Chef Owen Andrews. Platinum guests are also invited to taste a rare 100 year old tawny, a true highlight of the region.

After dinner, return to the train, where the Indian Pacific rolls eastward into the night.

Overnight the Indian Pacific crosses into New South Wales and arrives into Broken Hill, once known as Silver City. After breakfast, you have a choice of five excursions:

• Silver City Highlights – visiting the Living Desert State Park and Sulphide Street Railway & Historical Museum
• Paint Like a Pro – a ‘paint and sip’ art class in Pro Hart’s original studio
• Historic Day Dream Mine – a glimpse into what life was like underground for early miners
• Taste of the Outback – a lesson in bush tucker from celebrated local chef Lee Cecchin
• Shelita, Queen of the Outback – a tour of town with local Drag Queen sensation, Shelita Buffet

Return to the train for lunch and to admire the changing landscapes of regional New South Wales. Tonight, savour your final dinner on board, raising a glass to an unforgettable journey, traversing Australia coast to coast by train.

This morning, the Indian Pacific arrives in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, a landscape of sandstone cliffs and eucalypt valleys. After breakfast, you have a choice of three off-train experiences:

• Scenic World & Echo Point – glide over the forest in the Scenic Cablecar, and ride the world’s steepest passenger railway, all before lunch and wine at Echo Point Lookout
• Blue Mountains Discovery Trail – join a guided 3 km guided bushwalk along the Prince Henry Cliff path to Echo Point, where a light lunch awaits
• High Tea in the Blue Mountains – soak in the views of dramatic cliffs and cascading waterfalls at Govetts Leap Lookout, before enjoying fluffy scones and savoury delights

Onwards travel to Sydney is aboard a chartered New South Wales rail service, fully hosted by your Indian Pacific crew. Alternatively, if you don’t wish to visit the Blue Mountains, you can stay on the Indian Pacific and reach Sydney before lunch.

On arrival, make your way to The York by Swiss-Belhotel, for a four night stay.

Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden, iconic Opera House and bustling Circular Quay are all an easy walk from your hotel. And once you have got your bearings, you can choose one of these activities, included in your holiday:
