Sydney to Brisbane by Train
Train journeys from Sydney to Brisbane (and vice versa) are a popular route, serviced by regional New South Wales trains. The journey takes around 14 hours, and there is both a daytime and an overnight service available in both directions (with some services also involving a coach transfer). There are three service levels on board: Coach Class, First Class and Sleeper Cabins, and there is a buffet car offering a variety of hot and cold meals, drinks and snacks.
Sydney to Melbourne by Train
There is a direct rail service from Sydney to Melbourne (or vice versa), operated by regional New South Wales trains. With a journey time of 11 hours, you can opt to travel overnight, or during the day. Choose from Coach Class, First Class and Sleeper Cabins, and enjoy food and drink from the buffet car.
Brisbane to Cairns by Train
The train journey from Brisbane to Cairns (or vice versa) takes approximately 25 hours, and offers picturesque views as the landscapes transform in front of you. Aboard the Spirit of Queensland train you can opt for a Premium Economy seat or a Railbed, you can enjoy onboard entertainment and choose from a range of hot and cold food and drink.
Melbourne to Adelaide by Train
Offering an affordable and convenient way to travel between these two cities, travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide by rail takes around 10.5 hours. From the creators of The Ghan and the Indian Pacific trains, the Overland offers a sophisticated and comfortable experience on board. Choose from Red Service, with comfortable reclining seats and access to the café for food and drink, or Red Premium, with all inclusive breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, more leg room and additional luggage allowance.
Australia Rail Passes
The Discovery Rail Pass provides unlimited travel within New South Wales plus interstate rail services to Brisbane and Melbourne on NSW Trainlink.
Included in the Queensland Rail Pass is economy travel on the TiltTrain between Brisbane and Rockhampton and Spirit of Queensland between Brisbane and Cairns, as well as coach connections to Hervey Bay and Airlie Beach.
