Cervantes is a crayfishing centre, and appeals to anglers because of the wide range of fish that can be caught from the shore. The town’s beaches are ideal for swimming, boating and especially windsurfing.

Nambung National Park almost surrounds the town of Cervantes, and its major draw, the Pinnacles, are 29 km to the south. Here thousands of limestone pillars, standing up to 4 metres tall, dot the barren landscape. There are places to park so you can explore the pinnacles area on foot.

Day 2 - Kalbarri (412 kms)

Depart Cervantes today and return to the Brand Highway – travel north via Badgingarra, Eneabba, Dongara and Geraldton to Kalbarri.

Kalbarri, with its pristine beaches and towering coastal cliffs, is the ideal place for the nature lover. Providing excellent bushwalks and scenic lookouts Kalbarri is situated along the winding banks of the Murchison River which carves through the rugged gorges of the Kalbarri National Park. There’s great surfing, swimming, fishing, bushwalking, horse riding and canoeing near town and in the National Park.

Hotel: Kalbarri Palm Resort (Standard) or Kalbarri Edge Resort (Deluxe).

Day 3 - Monkey Mia (395 kms)

Depart Kalbarri today and drive through the National Park to join the North West Coastal Highway leading to Monkey Mia.

Monkey Mia This isolated beach on Shark Bay has created international interest because of its dolphin population which have been visiting the beach since the 1960’s. Shark Bay, which surrounds the peninsula on which Monkey Mia is located, is a World Heritage area, acclaimed for its dugong population.

Day 5 - Geraldton (429 kms)

The journey south begins today but there’s still plenty to see and do on the route back to the North West Coastal Highway. Be sure to visit famous Shell Beach (a 110 km beach made up of billions of tiny white shells), the living marine stromatalites at Hamlin Pools and be sure to make a stop at Eagle Bluff to take in the breathtaking views. Continue to travel south back through Northampton to arrive at Geraldton.

Badingarra National Park is home to an abundance of wildflowers, including many species of kangaroo paws, banksia, verticordia etc. The Badgingarra Nature Trail begins and finishes west of the Brand Highway near the Badgingarra Roadhouse. The walk takes 90 minutes and you’ll find emus and kangaroos are a common site on the trail.

Geraldton’s boundary of safe beaches, its yearlong surf scene, the wildflowers, scenic attractions and rich historic features, give it a magnetic appeal to those who want a carefree holiday. It is known as Sun City, because it boasts of an average of 8 hours sunshine a day, all year round.
