The cliffs of the Arnhem Land escarpment tower over the wetlands below and the native flora and wildlife becomes even more diverse. Day 3 to 4 – Katherine & The Gorges
Travel on through Kakadu National Park to the magnificent Katherine River Gorges. There are several places of interest on the way, including Pine Creek, an old mining town from the 1980s, with plenty of historic buildings from that time. A two night stay in Katherine allows time for an unforgettable cruise through a series of steep-sided gorges within the Nitmiluk National Park. There are also caves, waterfalls and more gorges to explore, as well as the town itself, with a fascinating heritage museum and galleries of contemporary Aboriginal art.

As you drive on towards Litchfield National Park, you will pass native eucalyptus forests, gigantic termite mounds and stunning outback scenery. Your accommodation for the night is at Lake Bennett, at the entrance to Litchfield and, if time permits, you can explore some of the Park this afternoon.

Two favourite attractions and nature walks are at Tolmer Falls and Florence Falls, or you can hike to the more secluded Cascades or Buley Rock Hole.
