Getting back to nature doesn’t mean sacrificing creature comforts at the Black Forest Cabins on Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore.

Set in native woodland on the edge of Mahone Bay, each of the eight timber-clad cabins are cleverly-designed to reflect their natural surroundings, with Scandinavian style wooden windows and large skylights to maximise daylight.

Each cabin has a king-size bed, a well-equipped kitchenette, with a wine fridge and coffee maker, and a private outdoor seating area. There is also an onsite cedar sauna, for exclusive use by guests.

Mahone Bay’s picturesque waterfront is around a 15 minute walk away. Here you’ll find a wonderful collection of pubs and eateries, as well as several galleries selling locally-made jewellery and artwork. Just north of the town, by the mouth of the Mushamush River, you can snap the iconic photograph of Mahone Bay’s three churches.

Lunenburg, with its UNESCO-listed Old Town, is a 15 minute drive, or a pleasant 11 km traffic-free cycle along the Bay to Bay Trail.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport is just over an hour’s drive, making the Black Forest Cabins particularly popular as a first or last stop on a South Shore or circular Nova Scotia self drive.
