Uncover the finest celestial spectacles in one of the top stargazing destinations in the world. The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve near Lake Tekapo is the largest gold standard reserve in the world.
Meet at the Dark Sky Project base in Lake Tekapo before being driven to the lofty heights of the reserve.
Designed specifically with stargazing in mind, Cowan’s Private Observatory is the perfect stargazing experience. Nestled in a giant purpose-built crater to provide maximum wind protection and minimum light pollution, expert astronomy guides will enhance your knowledge and understanding of the Southern Skies with powerful optical telescopes.
The Crater Experience operates in all weather conditions. If conditions prevent Dark Sky Project from taking you outdoors (e.g. cloud cover or inclement weather) you’ll learn about the southern skies from the purpose-built technological and interactive venue.
