Day 1: Christchurch
Depart London or your local airport for your journey to the South Island of New Zealand. Arrive into Christchurch and see how the city is rebuilding after the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011, and pop into the Transitional Cathedral, the temporary home of the Christchurch Cathedral built almost entirely of cardboard!
Spend a couple of days exploring the city and stay at Chateau on the Park, a peaceful retreat on the edge of Christchurch within easy walking distance of the Botanical Gardens and city centre.
Day 5: Hokitika
This morning depart Christchurch on the TranzAlpine for your journey across Arthur’s Pass to Greymouth. The TranzAlpine train journey is rated one of the world’s great scenic railway journeys and travels from one coast of New Zealand to the other. Your train climbs into the Southern Alps before descending through lush beech rainforest to the west coast town of Greymouth.
On arrival at Greymouth you will collect your rental car and make your way to your hotel in Hokitika (approximately 40kms to Hokitika).
Day 6: Franz Josef
This morning make your way down the West Coast to Franz Josef. Nowhere in the world’s temperate zones are glaciers as accessible as South Westland’s most famous pair, Franz Josef and Fox. Franz Josef Glacier is a remnant of a much older, larger glacier, which flowed from the alpine snowfields right to the sea. During your two night stay, be sure to take the opportunity to experience a scenic helicopter flight and guided glacier hike on Franz Josef.
Day 8: Queenstown
Today make your way to New Zealand’s adventure capital, Queenstown which sits on the shore of crystal-clear Lake Wakatipu. Spend 3 nights at The Rees, a luxury hotel situated within easy access of the town centre and offering stunning lake views.
Enjoy an afternoon of ultimate relaxation at the picturesque Onsen Hot Pools. Your own private pool overlooks the magnificent Shotover River canyon, providing breathtaking scenery for the perfect honeymoon experience.
Day 11: Te Anau
Make your way to Te Anau and spend a couple of days at leisure. Te Anau with its setting of mountain lakes, forest and fiords, unspoiled, rugged and beautiful is the natural gateway to Fiordland National Park and for trips to Lake Manapouri, the Eglinton Valley and Milford Sound.
We suggest you travel to Milford Sound (approximately 250 kms round trip) to enjoy a cruise on the scenic sound (at your own expense).
Day 13: Dunedin
Depart Te Anau and travel to Dunedin – the “Edinburgh of the South”. This afternoon in Dunedin time is available to explore — you may like to visit the Otago Peninsula – home of the Royal Albatross Colony, the Yellow Penguins or historic Larnach Castle for afternoon tea.
Tonight stay at the Scenic Southern Cross hotel, a striking heritage building right in the centre of Dunedin.
Day 14: Oamaru
Continue your journey this morning to the historical town of Oamaru. The rest of your day is at your leisure to explore this delightful township and relax in your luxury lodge style accommodation Pen-Y-Bryn.
Day 15: Christchurch
Leave Oamaru and make your way back to Christchurch for the final night of your honeymoon. Relax at the hotel or dine out at one of the city’s trendy restaurants before your flight home the following day.
