Between Auckland and Christchurch you’ll visit many LOTR filming locations, including Waikato, Tongariro National Park and Kawarau Gorge and enjoy a Lord of the Rings Studio tour at Weta Workshop, who produced the films’ props and special effects.
Hobbiton Tour
A day in the Shire is a must on any Lord of the Rings holiday! On your Hobbit tour you’ll get to explore the 12 acre movie set; see the Hobbit Holes, the Mill and Green Dragon Inn. Your guide will share tales from Middle Earth, offer a fascinating insight into how the LOTR movies were filmed.
Whilst you can’t stay at Hobbiton itself, our Hobbiton Tour & Farm Stay package is the next best thing. After enjoying a day in the Shire, you will be driven to a local New Zealand farm for a hearty dinner and leisurely evening, before a lie in and equally hearty breakfast the next morning!
