Day 1 – Sydney
Make the most of your time in Australasia with an extended three-night stopover in the exciting harbour city of Sydney. Explore this most popular of Australian cities – relax on one of the many surrounding beaches, spend time on the famous harbour – home to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge or travel further afield to the Blue Mountains.
Day 4 – Auckland
Today is a tale of two cities as you fly from Sydney to Auckland. Spend the night in another famous harbour front city enjoying the rest of the day at leisure to explore.
Day 5 & 6 – Bay of Islands
Today sees you embark on a 3 day explorer tour to the beautiful Bay of Islands. Following a four hour scenic coach transfer you will visit the historic Waitangi Treaty House and enjoy a 2 night stay in the pretty resort town of Paihia. Enjoy a ‘Hole in the Rock’ dolphin cruise around the islands before returning to Auckland.
Day 7 – Auckland
Return to Auckland for an overnight stay before your early departure to Wellington on board the Northern Explorer the following day.
Day 8 – Northern Explorer to Wellington
Hop on board the Northern Explorer train for an 11 hour scenic journey through the length of the North Island from the fertile farmlands of Waikato to the volcanic peaks of the Central Plateau before arriving into the national capital of Wellington for an overnight stay.
Day 9 - Picton
Cruise over the Cook Strait and through the Marlborough Sounds to the port of Picton, signifying your arrival into the South Island.
Day 10 & 11 – Coastal Pacific to Kaikoura
The newly developed Coastal Pacific provides passengers with a scenic glimpse into the varied coastal landscape of the spectacular East Coast. Break the journey with a 2-night stay in Kaikoura which is home to an abundance of marine life and dramatic mountain scenery.

Day 12 – Christchurch
Arrive into Christchurch late afternoon giving you the rest of the evening to explore the city and its bars and restaurants.
Day 13 – TranzAlpine to Greymouth
Your last train journey is considered one of the world’s most spectacular. The TranzAlpine meanders through the mountain ranges and valleys of the Southern Alps and provides some prime photo opportunities along the way. Arrive into Greymouth located on the rugged west coast where you will pick up your rental car and spend the night in this historic mining town.
Day 14 – Franz Josef
Begin your South Island self-drive as you journey down the West Coast to the impressive natural wonder of the Franz Josef Glacier. We recommend pre-booking a scenic helicopter flight or glacier valley walk to truly appreciate the spectacle of the ice flow.
Day 15 – 17– Queenstown
An action packed four days await as you arrive into the adventure capital of New Zealand. Queenstown plays host to a range of activities to cater for all levels of adrenaline and interests. Soak up the scenery over a refreshing glass of wine at one of the region’s vineyards or test your nerves at the AJ Hackett Bungy jump at Kawarau Bridge.
Day 18 – Dunedin
Travel to the Scottish town of Dunedin and soak up the culture and dramatic coastal scenery of this historic settlement.
Day 19 – Christchurch
Journey through the Southern Alps and over the Canterbury Plains and return to Christchurch. Enjoy a two-night stay exploring the laneways, museums and gardens of this beautiful city.
Day 21 – Farewell from Christchurch
Return your car to the airport depot before your onward flight back to the UK or to extend your holiday opt for a stopover in an Asian, American or Australian destination.
