Kathleen & David’s Kenya Safari & Beach Holiday

This was a ‘bucket list’ trip for both of us and it didn’t disappoint, very well planned by Neelam at Freedom Destinations. We visited 4 parks: Masai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo West and Ngutuni.

Our adventure started in Nairobi being picked up by Pius, our driver from Rhino Safaris. What a brilliant driver/guide, his knowledge of the animals, environment and people was outstanding, along with his driving skills!

Kenya was fantastic all the people we met were so happy and welcoming a great holiday!

Questions and Answers

Which was your favourite lodge?

Our favourite lodge was the Sopa Lodge at Lake Naivasha. Having giraffe and zebra grazing by your front door was amazing and the hippopotamus coming from the lake on an evening to graze was a wonderful experience.

I must also mention the Ngutuni Lodge. The waterhole at the front of the lodge was very busy during the evening and early morning some of the “visitors” can be seen in the photographs.

What were your best wildlife sightings?

Our 2 best wildlife sightings were provided by cheetahs, our first one in the Masai Mara only 40 minutes into our first every game drive – so lucky. Our second encounter with a cheetah was in Ngutuni and she had just made a kill for her and her 4 cubs. Seeing all the animals in their natural environment was such a privilege.

How was your Mombasa beach stay?

After our safari we said goodbye to Pius at Pinewood Beach Resort and Spa on Diani Beach, Mombasa. A great place to unwind and relax, amazing staff – nothing was too much trouble, different food theme nights every night, miles of white sand and very peaceful, truly spoilt by everyone.

What was the highlight of your trip?

Difficult to pin down a particular highlight so we’ll go for one each!

Mine would be the chance to see Kenya the people and the animals living in close proximity and respectful of each other.

Kathleen’s was the cheetah mother providing for her cubs, we were told 2 cubs are the norm but to have 4 such healthy cubs is testament to the mothers skill and devotion.
