Your Itinerary
Expand AllYou can personalise you Ashes Holiday by adding extra nights along the way. It can also be driven in either direction.
On arrival, collect your car and enjoy a day exploring Alice Springs, before an overnight stay there. This outback town began as a telegraph station on the first landline from Australia to the rest of the world, and the old buildings have been turned into a museum.
Also worth visiting are the Royal Flying Doctor Service and School of Air, which give you a good insight into life in the outback. Plus, a climb to the top of Anzac Hill provided fabulous views of Alice and the Desert beyond.
Day 2 – Kings Canyon
Make sure you take on supplies before making the long journey from Alice to Kings Canyon. The red desert scenery is spectacular and you are more likely to see wild camel than kangaroo.
Kings Canyon is the deepest gorge in the Red Centre and hides oasis-like waterholes within its walls, the largest one known as the ‘Garden of Eden’. Take a stroll along the peaceful, boulder strewn canyon floor today before heading to your accommodation.
Day 3 & 4 – Uluru & Kata-Tjuta
This morning, make an early start to avoid the heat of the day and drive back to Kings Canyon to discover the wonders of this ancient geological formation. The challenging rim walk may take up to 3 hours and you will need a fairly good level of fitness.
Mid morning, travel back to the highway and continue west towards Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park for a two night stay at Ayers Rock Resort.
Spend the next day exploring the Park, including a walk around the mysterious Olgas, and a base walk around Uluru itself. In the evening you could enjoy a barbeque or dinner under the stars and your FREEDOM consultant can arrange this for you.
Day 5 – Hello Melbourne
Perhaps get up early this morning to watch the sun come up at Uluru before a late breakfast. After some last minute souvenir shopping, return your car to the airport for your onward flight to Melbourne.
On arriving at Melbourne International Airport, transfer independently to you pre-booked downtown hotel. Spend the rest of the afternoon discovering the delights of this cosmopolitan city.
Day 7 to 11 – 4th NRMA Insurance Ashes Test Match
The Boxing Day Test has long been a favourite to attend, and rarely disappoints in terms of the play and the impressive surroundings of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (The MCG)
Watch the action unfold in the penultimate test. Your Ashes cricket package includes hotel accommodation and tickets to every day of the NRMA Insurance Ashes Test Match (All Day 5 tickets will include General Admission only, with unreserved seating).
