Welcome to Nova Scotia! Collect your bags, pick up your hire car and head west to Lunenburg, for your first night in the Maritimes.

It’s around a 1 hour 20 minute drive, however you may wish to take a detour to visit Peggy’s Cove en route. This charming fishing village is home to Canada’s most photographed lighthouse, perched on a granite outcrop. Give yourself around 2 hours for the side trip, including time to look around.

Lunenburg’s colourful Old Town is recognised by UNESCO for its historic centre. Along the waterfront you’ll find a great choice of restaurants serving fresh seafood with harbour views.

Before leaving Lunenburg, check to see if Bluenose II is in harbour. Built in 1963, she’s an exact replica of a famous undefeated racing schooner. The 2 hour morning cruise is highly recommended.

Today’s scenic drive to Digby should take around 2 hours, with Kejimkujik National Park perfectly placed to stretch your legs midway. From the visitors centre, it’s a short walk to Mill Falls. A little further into the park, there are a number of hiking trails around Kejimkujik Lake.

Continue to Digby Pines Golf Resort & Spa, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights. Enjoy a dip in the outdoor heated pool, or a local beer in Churchill’s Lounge.

You have a full day to explore the Nova Scotian capital, and where better to get your bearings than from the ramparts of the star-shaped Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, which occupies the highest point in the city. The fortress is still guarded by the 78th Highlanders who conduct marching and band drills on the parade grounds.

In the afternoon you could admire the city skyline from the water on a boat tour of the harbour, or discover stories from the sea at the fascinating Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. To stretch your legs, head to Halifax Public Gardens or Point Pleasant Park.
