Your adventure begins late this morning as you wave goodbye to the bustling city streets of Vancouver and soar above the skyline on your 70 minute flight to the remote blue-collar coastal town of Port Hardy. Once you arrive, a transfer will be waiting to take you into town where you will have some free time before your next flight to grab lunch (own expense) and explore.

If time allows, head to the Hardy Bay waterfront and follow the paved seawall path, known as the Hardy Bay Seawall Walk, breathing in the fresh sea air while keeping your eyes peeled for local marine life.

Later, meet your transfer and head to the floatplane base ready for your scenic flight over the Queen Charlotte Strait, to the floating Great Bear Lodge. There won’t be much time to relax once you land – after a quick introduction, your first grizzly bear excursion begins! Spend the remainder of the afternoon in search of grizzly bears roaming free in the Great Bear Rainforest, before returning to the lodge that evening for dinner.

In the morning, you will be on the trail of the grizzly bear again so be sure to fuel up with a good breakfast and fresh coffee before heading out – you’ll spend the next few hours in the field at a time the bears are most active. After a morning of adventure and some memorable bear sightings, return to the lodge for lunch and time to relax.

After, choose to stay at the lodge or head out for another adventure with an expert guide. A popular activity is the interpretive rainforest walk where your guide will help identify bear signs and teach you about the general ecology of the area. Alternatively, you may choose to take a scenic boat cruise exploring the glacier-carved inlet.

In the mid-afternoon, venture out once more to watch the bears and other wildlife in the Great Bear Rainforest, including grey wolves, otters, black bears, mink, and bald eagles. Later, return to the lodge for dinner before heading out to the deck – the remote setting makes Great Bear Lodge the perfect place to stargaze.
