Description
Discover some of Luang Prabang’s priceless monuments around the old city, now under UNESCO protection as a World Heritage Site. Visit the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace, which houses the personal artefacts of the former Laotian royal family. Continue to the Buddhist temple of Wat Mai which has a five-tiered roof epitomising the graceful Luang Prabang architectural style.
Visit Wat Xieng Thong, often said to be Luang Prabang’s most beautiful Buddhist temple. It is has several roofs sweeping low to the ground and ornate mosaics including a beautiful ‘tree of life’ montage on the rear temple wall. Afterwards visit Wat Visoun, the oldest temple in Luang Prabang dating back to 1513 which contains a collection of antique wooden Buddhas.
For the energetic, and if time permits, climb 350 steps to the top of Phou Sii hill to enjoy the commanding views of the town before returning to your hotel.
