Description
Meet up with your guide at a coffee shop in the centre of Windhoek and following an introduction to the history of Windhoek, begin your walk to “old Windhoek”, where most of the city’s pre-colonial buildings and commemorative statues of the pre-independence struggle are situated.
From the Independence Museum, 360-degree views of the city can be enjoyed along with a drink whilst your guide vividly paints Windhoek’s history from pre-colonial to current times. After a group photo at the foot of our founding fathers statue, continue your walk to the iconic Christuskirche (Christ Church), the Tintenpalast (parliament), and its beautiful gardens with the statues of 3 of Namibia’s most celebrated heroes.
On route back to Independence Avenue, we pass southern Africa’s smallest chapel, the National Art Gallery, pre- and post-colonial buildings and heritage sites. The last step of our route takes us via the Catholic Church to the Gibeon meteorite collection, commemorating the world’s largest meteorite shower ever recorded! We arrive at Zoo Park, and, after the different memorial monuments have been explained, the tour ends.
