Description

We begin with a visit to the village of Banyumulek. The Sasak people of Lombok have been skilfully crafting pottery for generations and here you can learn about the traditional methods used, as well as their unique style of decoration using rattan. Another feature of the village is the local method of transport known as cidomo: these horse-drawn carts may be seen carrying either materials or completed products to and from the village.

The next visit is to Sukarare village which is known for its textile weaving. Here you will have the opportunity to observe and maybe try for yourself, the techniques used to create the intricately patterned songket cloth.

The tour continues to the southern shores of Lombok where some of the island’s best beaches can be found including Selung Belanak, Kuta and Tanjung Aan. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant.

On the return journey back to your hotel, you will make a stop at another Sasak village, called Sade. This is believed to be the oldest village on Lombok, and most residents still live in traditional houses constructed from grass thatch, mud and cow dung. It will be possible to visit one of these traditional homes and meet members of a local family.
