As the first camp ever built in the Lower Zambezi, Chiawa is a tourism pioneer with a dedication to conservation and the local community that is reflected in its name which translates from the Soli language as ‘the one who shares’.

Nestled under a grove of Mahogany trees on the river, the lodge embodies the classic beauty of the Lower Zambezi. The main social area of the lodge is an open sided lounge and bar area which includes an upstairs viewing deck for some of the best views of the Zambezi River. Chiawa’s renowned cuisine is taken on the dining veranda, conveniently close to the open camp fire where guests recount stories of the day over a drink.

For the best possible wildlife sightings, the camp offers a full range of activities; exciting canoe safaris where you will be paddled gently down stream for some close up wildlife spotting, immersive bush walks with your guide who will teach you about the smaller fauna and flora, 4wd game drives in the morning or evening when wildlife is most active, and afternoon river safaris in a pontoon boat culminating in a sunset drinks.

Your stay at Chiawa Camp includes all meals, selected drinks, laundry, return airstrip transfers and two safari activities per day.

The spacious Safari Tents offer an impressive 100 square meters of space with a luxury bathroom featuring ball and claw bathtubs, and indoor and outdoor shower. Sliding doors lead out onto the deck complete with hammock and a ‘Bench-wallow’ – a unique take on the plunge pool as a sunken lounge area that can be turned quickly into a plunge pool.
