You have a day to get to know Melbourne before the cricket begins tomorrow. You could:

When you are ready, make the short drive to Phillip Island. Home to an abundance of wildlife and Australia’s largest seal colony, we suggest you spend your time enjoying the spectacular views and strolling along the boardwalks before watching the famous Penguin Parade at dusk (available to pre-book).

This morning, leave Phillip Island behind as you make your way along the rugged coastline to Lakes Entrance, stopping at Wilsons Promontory. Here you will see spectacular scenery made up of huge granite mountains, open forests, sweeping beaches and an uninterrupted coastline, the ideal place for those wanting to stretch their legs.

Lakes Entrance is a town at the entrance to Gippsland Lakes, a vast system of inland waterways. There is also a pedestrian bridge across to Ninety-Mile Beach, which stretches along the town’s Tasman Sea shoreline. You may be able to spot kangaroos enjoying the soft sands.

Wind your way north from Lakes Entrance along the scenic Princes Highway, where the Sapphire Coast unfolds before you.
